THE THRILL OF THE GRILL...
The key to a successful BBQ lies in
the three Ps-planning, prepping
and patience!
IT
Step 1: check whether the people
you're cooking for have any dietary
requirements. The precision of your
steak grilling won't be appreciated
by Aunt Dymphna if since the last
time you met her, she's switched to
a plant-based diet. Step 2: work out
how much they'll realistically eat to
avoid unnecessary waste. A notable
exception being sauces and dips,
which you can never have too many
of!

MORE FOR YOU THIS SUMMER
If you're marinating your meats or
veggie and vegan alternatives, do it
overnight in the fridge, which allows
all those delicious flavours to soak in.
Don't limit yourself to the usual
suspects King Prawns, tofu,
asparagus, watermelon and choccy
bars, cream and marshmallows
wrapped in tortillas (no, really!) all go
brilliantly on the barbie.
Step 3: compile a master-list of the
different cooking times as per the
instructions on the packet and work
out a timetable for putting food on the
grill so it arrives at regular intervals
rather than all at once.
Bearing in mind those likely dietary
requirements, use strips of tin foil to
divide the grill into separate meat, fish
and vegetable cooking areas.
The safefood website has Top Food
Safety Tips for ensuring that your
meat, fish and vegetables have been
cooked thoroughly.
"This is particularly important," they
say, "when cooking poultry, pork,
minced and skewered meats, such
as burgers, sausages and kebabs on
the BBQ. While the outside may look
cooked and in some cases burnt -
the inside can still be raw."
Armed with that and all the other
expert advice to be found on safefood.
net, it's time for Step 4: channelling
your inner pitmaster! No matter how
loudly stomachs are grumbling, make
sure the coals have stopped smoking
before you start grilling, and have a
trusted second-in-command to hand
you the cheese singles and make sure
the brioche buns aren't burning.

Step 5: keep cooling down BBQs
away from children, pets and wildlife
who may not be able to resist those
delicious lingering aromas.
Along with grill-able goodies galore,
Lidl has BBQs for every budget and
the briquettes, tools and accessories
to go with them; recyclable plates,
glasses and napkins to ensure that
your guests don't end up with as much
sticky sauce on them as the ribs; and
long, cool summer drinks to wash all
that gorgeous food down with.
So, slather on the Factor 30 that's also
available in-store and get ready to
BBQ up a storm!
