My dad runs a tight ship when it comes to holidays. He
used to ration me and my sister to one tiny duffel bag
whether two days or two weeks
it never changed. Packing filled us with fear and we felt
judged if the zip was half closed or something had to sit
on the back seat. Not only was the car packed with military precision
when we went away
but we had to leave at the exact time Dad stated he'd sit in the
car with the engine running if we didn't hit the deadline.
I have fond memories of these holidays the days
spent in the pool and the evenings around the
barbecue were the perfect way to pass the
hours. Looking back at photos has also
reinvigorated my love for the 'uniform
any serious camper donned in the
early 90s: the shell suit. Not too
great around open flames, it
was ideal for an early morning
dash to the shower block!
Whether garden-hopping or
island-hopping, I hope you
have as much fun creating
your own holiday memories
as I've had recalling mine.
